Let the feast begin!

You can’t build a tribe of Vikings in Aska if you have an empty stomach and dry mouth. Here is how to find food and water in Aska.

Aska: How to find food

Finding food and water is all about exploration with a decent emphasis on luck. Let’s start with food. This is quite more common to encounter in the wild in the form of berries and mussels. The first are found all around the mainland while the latter is found next to bodies of water on rocks. You can also find garlic, onions, and even red meat from hunting wildlife.

However, food will eventually go bad and, if you consume it, can make you sick for a while. That is why using the barbecue upgrade in your campfire is a great way to preserve your food resources. This will reset their durability. To build the barbeque after you have built your campfire, collect the following resources:

  • 8x Sticks: Found on the ground or by chopping down long sticks.
  • 4x Rope: Crafted by spending two pieces of fiber.

Finally, for sustainability’s sake, you can also plant any seed you come across so that you can have a steady production of food that won’t require you to walk around the map in search of the resources detailed above.

Collecting water is another whole beast in its entirety if you are just planning to find it in the wild. Across the ground, you will find natural water collectors, which are a nice way to name rock formations that have gathered water from rain due to their shape. These can help you during an emergency, but they are not as common as food and just relying on finding them randomly could be very harmful.

One easy way to circumvent this in the early stages of the game is to build a rain collector. This is quite a simple contraption that is easily crafted and will collect a decent amount of water for a small population of Vikings. You will have to craft some tools beforehand, so here is a table of the necessary tools you will need to build the rain collector.

ToolMaterials
Stone Axe1x Stone Blade.
1x Stick.
1x Rope.
Wooden Hammer2x Stick.
Wooden Hoe2x Stone Blade.
4X Stick.

Use the axe to chop down trees, the wooden hoe to level the land where the rain collector will stand, and the wooden hammer to build the collector itself. You will also have to gather the following materials to build it:

  • 6x Sticks.
  • 3x Long Sticks: Found by chopping down trees.

Building a water well

While the rain collector is great and easy to build, once you begin summoning villagers to your tribe, you will find out that its water supply runs out pretty fast. That is why building a water well will definitely make a difference by providing your Vikings with enough water to satiate their thirst. The downside of building a water well is that you can only build it on top of natural water collectors. For that reason, be sure to position your base near one of these to build a water well easily accessible to your villagers. Here are the materials you will need to build it:

  • 12x Small Stones: Found on the ground or by mining rock formations.
  • 20x Sticks.

As you can see, surviving the harsh conditions of the wild will require you to build structures to make living sustainable. Just remember that eating food or drinking water will not heal you, but only satiate your hunger and thirst meters. To heal, you will have to build a shelter and sleep inside it. That doesn’t mean you don’t need to pay attention to those meters since they can become depleted very fast if you are not paying attention. I hope you create a well-oiled machine of a tribe!
