How to unlock Sharen in The First Descendant
Sharen is one of the few Descendants who you can gain the Core Research Materials of (Blueprints and Codes) without having to research them. Like Bunny, you’ll get the items necessary through playing missions.
Here is how to obtain the necessary Blueprints and Code for Sharen in The First Descendant:
Sharen Core Material | How to get Sharen Core Material |
---|---|
Sharen Enhanced Cells | Complete Seed Vault in Echo Swamp. |
Sharen Stabilizer | Complete The Chapel in Echo Swamp. |
Sharen Spiral Catalyst | Complete The Asylum in Agna Desert. |
Sharen Code | Complete Caligo Ossuary in Agne Desert. |
Each drop has a 20% chance of dropping, so ideally you only have to play each mission at the most five times if the odds play fair.
Once you’ve played all the missions and obtained the Core Research Materials, you can head over to the Research Institute to pay Anais 400,000 Gold to begin the research process.
Now that you’ve finally got Sharen, we can go over her skills and playstyle.
Sharen playstyle and skills explained in The First Descendant
Sharen is all about subterfuge and striking when unexpected in The First Descendant.
Let’s go over her skills so we can understand how Sharen works:
- Assassinator is Sharen’s passive skill. This will make more sense after understanding her active skills. When Sharen is in an Ambush state, killing any enemy with a skill will reset her Active Camouflage skill cooldown. Additionally, Sharen’s damage increases by 15% when attacking enemies who aren’t targeting her.
- Cutoff Beam launches a quick electric attack that damages enemies and inflicts Electrocution.
- Active Camouflage is a state where Sharen becomes invisible to enemies for four seconds. Enemies will instantly target other players or walk away. The moment Active Camouflage ends, Sharen activates Ambush state (needed for passive skill). Attacking whilst in Active Camouflage state will end it.
- Shock Nuts launches a projectile that damages enemies in an AoE and inflicts stun.
- Flash Shortsword generates numerous projectiles that you can aim before firing. A red screen will appear, allowing you to see how many enemies you’ll strike. The projectiles damage enemies and inflict Electrocution.
Sharen’s skills are mostly offensive skills, designed to be quick and powerful attacks. This is because her passive skill allows you to end the Active Camouflage cooldown should you kill an enemy with one of these skills.
This allows for a satisfying loop of becoming invisible, evading enemies, assassinating them with a skill, and then going invisible again to evade retaliation.
Should you play your cards right, you’ll be able to keep this loop going indefinitely to pick off enemies one by one without receiving any damage.
When part of a team, you’ll need to make sure you’re assassinating key targets and swathes of enemies, as your absence from enemy targeting will make your teammates more vulnerable to enemy attention.
Best Sharen build in The First Descendant
Now that we know how Sharen plays, we can tailor her build to make her as powerful as possible in The First Descendant.
Best Sharen Modules
Arguably the most important part of any build is the Modules. If you upgrade them enough, these will significantly improve Sharen’s stats and capabilities.
Here is a list of all the Modules I’d recommend for Sharen:
Sharen Modules | Module effects |
---|---|
Overcharged Edge | Active Camouflage no longer costs MP, but gradually reduces your shield. Ambush state damage increases the more shields have been consumed. |
Shock Punch | Replaces standard charged sub attack with Shock Punch. |
Electric Master | Increases Skill Power and Electric Skill Power. |
Focus on Electric | Increases Electric Skill Power and reduces Skill cooldowns. |
Focus on Fusion | Increases Fusion Skill Power and reduces Skill cooldowns. |
Skill Extension | Increases duration for certain skills. |
Agony | Increases DEF and max MP. |
Energy Collection | Increases MP recovery. |
Enlightenment | Increases max MP. |
MP Accelerant | Increases max MP and Skill duration for certain skills. |
Arche Acceleration | Increases Skill speed and range. |
Strong Mentality | Decreases Skill costs. |
The Modules provided for Sharen make her as deadly an assassin as possible. Maintaining her assassination loop will mean she ideally shouldn’t be taking any damage. So prioritizing increasing her skill power and ensuring that she can always use a skill is paramount.
By increasing her max MP and reducing MP skill costs and Skill cooldowns, Sharen will always be able to use a skill to kill an opponent in the Ambush state to activate her Active Camouflage again.
I chose Overcharged Edge for Sharen’s Skill Module as it increases damage whilst in the Ambush state, meaning you should have an easy time assassinating to become invisible again. This means that your shields shouldn’t be needed for combat – as your foes won’t be able to hit you.
If you’re struggling to equip all of these Modules, then you can increase your Module limit by prestiging your character, increasing your Mastery Rank, or by using Energy Activators.
Best Sharen Reactor Stats
Picking the right Reactor is paramount to increase your skill damage as much as possible — a very sensitive issue for Sharen in The First Descendant.
Every Descendants’ skill will align with an attribute, but individual skills may be of different types. You’ll need a reactor that can buff with the same attribute and the same skill types that you want.
As Sharen’s skills attributes are of the Electric attribute, you’ll want one of the Tingling Reactors.
The skills Cutoff Beam and Flash Shortsword are Fusion skills, and Active Camouflage and Shock Nuts are Dimension skills. Considering Sharen’s Fusion skills are both offensive, you’ll want to buff them to help maintain the assassination loop.
Thus, the Tingling Mixture Reactor is the right Reactor to use. So make sure to equip the most powerful one you have.
If you are keen to buff Sharen’s Dimension skills instead, or if you’re just curious, then you’ll want the Tingling Phase Reactor.
Best Sharen External Components
External Components in The First Descendant are like the bow on top of the build. They may not be as effective as other systems, but the little bonuses certainly don’t hurt.
As different specific External Components do the same things, I’ll instead show you the best stats to improve so you can pick the best components you have lying around:
- Increase Max Shields
- Increase DEF
When it comes to External Components, I’ve always been a fan of increasing DEF to reduce the amount of damage taken rather than increasing HP or Shields by a small amount. Also, for Sharen, DEF is her worst stat so it won’t hurt to round it out a bit.
However, in the case of this build, you’ll want more shields to compliment the Overcharged Edge Module to allow for more damage in the Ambush state.
Best Weapons for Sharen in The First Descendant
The right weapon for Sharen will be a saving grace in times when you’re not relying on your assassination loop in The First Descendant.
For Sharen, I must recommend the ultimate weapon Thunder Cage. I know, I know it’s being recommended for everything these days but it’s such a meta weapon it’s hard not to.
And even if another meta weapon rises, I’d still recommend the Thunder Cage for Sharen as its Overcharge ability emits electrical shockwaves to damage other enemies. Additionally, with the Remote Generator Module, when you kill enemies inflicted with Electrocution with Thunder Cage other enemies are then inflicted with Electrocution.
So I’m sure you can see why the Thunder Cage is a fantastic weapon for Sharen.
For Sharen’s other weapons, I’d recommend bringing a sniper rifle and a shotgun. Considering Sharen’s out-of-the-way playstyle, opportunities for sniping at tougher enemies will present themselves. Also, if you screw up the assassination loop, a shotgun will help you clear your way out of trouble.
Now that you can make the best Sharen build in The First Descendant, all you need now is to level her up as fast as you can.
